At the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tashi Lhunpo Foundation (formerly The Panchen Lama Tashi Lhunpo Project) is helping to re-establish the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in exile to its former greatness as a spiritual and scholastic center, preserving the traditions and culture of Tibetan Buddhism, protecting the seat of His Holiness the Panchen Lama, and the unique relationship that has existed between the two Lamas for hundreds of years.

I have a strong personal connection with Tashi Lhunpo Monastery.  As its Patron, I support the efforts being made to preserve its unique culture in exile.
— His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

OUR WORK

Retired Abbot Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Kachen Lobzang Tsetan achieved many great things during his long tenure as Abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Soon after he retired, Khen Zeekgyab Rinpoche was appointed the new Abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The monastery located in Southern India, is being reestablished to its former greatness as a center for spiritual and scholarly study in the Gelug, or Gelugpa “Yellow Hat” tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Over the last decade, former Abbot Khensur Rinpoche has tirelessly traveled the world to teach Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and inspire people to help support the monastery. His example of loving-kindness teaches us to be more compassionate human beings. In his stead, the new Abbot Zeekgyab Rinpoche has begun to build on what Khensur Rinpoche has accomplished over the many years of his tenure.

It is with this spirit and energy that the Tashi Lhunpo Foundation is supporting the monks of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery to preserve the legacy of ancient Tibetan Buddhist wisdom and provide access to these universal principles for all who are interested in learning and adopting them for contemporary life.

Through special teachings, projects, and events the Tashi Lhunpo Foundation brings the legacy of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery to people all over the world. Upon completion of two major projects, that of the construction of the new Prayer/Assembly Hall and the State of the Art Monastery Library, the Tashi Lhunpo Foundation plans to help fulfill Abbot Khen Zeekgyab Rinpoche’s goals and aspirations to make the monastery one of the greatest and modern Tibetan scholastic centers in India.
