Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is seat to the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader of Tibet. In 1447 the Monastery was founded by His Holiness the 1st Dalai Lama, Gyalwa Gendun Drup, in Shigatse, Tibet's second largest city.  It has been relocated and reconstructed in southern India.  In July 2005, Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan was installed as Khenchen, or head Abbot, of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Bylakuppe, in southern India. Upon the retirement of Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan in 2018, Khen Zeekgyab Rinpoche was appointed the new Abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

The Land of the Medicine Buddha
